Institute of Shijiazhuang Fruit Research of Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences is located in the capital city Shijiazhuang, with the convenient transportation and good geographic location. It is a non-profit scientific research unit doing studies in fruit tree species cover apple, pear, peach, grape, Chinese jujube, strawberry, apricot, cherry, plum and so on. Among the total of 60 researchers, there are 21 researchers, 13 associate researchers, 5 PhDs and 21 Postgraduates.
The research directions involve breeding, cultivation, plant protection, water conservation, fruit processing. The institute consists of 8 sections, which are engaged in apple cultivation, apple breeding, pear research, grape, peach, strawberry, Chinese jujube, plum and apricot. The National Pear Improvement Center has been built in the institute, in which the breeding, introduction and evaluation of pear germplasm resources, the study on supporting cultivation techniques and fruit preservation and processing are conducted.
Institute of Shijiazhuang Fruit Research attaches great importance to exchange and cooperation with experts in and out of China. The Sino-Japanese friendship experimental field developed in the institute in 1980s,symbolize Sino-Japanese friendship,which plays an important role in the relation between China and Japan and cooperation and exchanges in fruit tree research. In the recent years,the Institute have been exchange and cooperation with Korea,Japan,America,Australia,Germany and Israel in dry farming agriculture,fruit storage and processing,improving fruit quality and so on. Now the cooperative research on reducing the fruit cracking is being carried out with Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services in Korea.
