On August 13, the sixth “Jifeng Crop Science Youth Academic Salon” video conference was held by Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops. Researcher Chen Jinfeng from Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Researcher Wu Jing and Tang Sha from Institute of Crop Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, were invited to the salon and gave reports on the theme of "excavating excellent germplasm resources to boost the development of coarse cereals industry". Dr. Liu Changyou was the expert convener and the chairperson of the salon. Research staff from Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops and Institute of Millet Crops participated in this academic exchange activity on the spot or online.
       
Researcher Chen Jinfeng explained transposon activity and plant genome diversity by telling an interesting story of Ping and Pang, and introduced the research progress of his team in rice transposon family. Researcher Wu Jing gave a presentation on the definition, scope, conservation, and utilization of crop germplasm resources, the importance of crop germplasm resources in food security, the conservation and utilization of bean germplasm resources and papers published in Nature Genetic. Researcher Tang Sha introduced the research system of gene discovery and gene function based on millet germplasm resources established by his research team, which can provide an effective method for the rapid localization of mutant genes in other crops.
