Dr. XU Donghe from the International Research Center of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquatic Industries in Japan was invited to give an academic report online to the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops. The topic of this academic report is “Application of molecular breeding technology to improve the adaptability of soybean to climate change”. Dr. XU is currently the chief researcher of Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Science, and the doctoral supervisor of Tottori University. His research field mainly involves the exploration and utilization of soybean stress tolerance and high yield related good genes. He successfully cloned soybean salt tolerance genes and utilized these to carry out high yield and salt resistance soybean in China, India, Vietnam and other countries.
In the presentation, Dr. XU reported the screening, identification, gene mapping, excavation, cloning and verification of soybean salt-tolerant, alkali-tolerant and drought resistant germplasm based on the research practice of his research team and the current situation of expansion of saline and alkaline land area and the shortage of salt and alkali tolerant gerplasm in the world. After the report, the participating researchers of the institute had an in-depth exchange with Dr. XU on saline-alkali resistance identification methods, functional gene verification and test material screening. The academic exchange will play a good role in strengthening international cooperation, improving research level and promoting the development of relevant disciplines in the future.
