Small phloem-sucking pests and mites, such as Bemisia tabaci, aphids, thrips, spider mites, tarsal mites and gall mites, as well as stem borers, such as longicorn and buprestid beetles, are the main pests endangering fruits and vegetables. These pest mites are of small individuals, short generations and rapid variation leading to mixed-generations occurrence, rapid drug resistance and frequent chemical control, which not only pose threat to the safety of agricultural products, but also seriously deteriorate the orchard ecological environment, often resulting in rampant pests and mites. The research and use of natural enemies to control these pests and mites is an important means to solve the problems of environmental pollution and pesticide residues in the process of chemical control.
Natural enemy mites include predatory mites (Phytoseiidae, etc.) and parasitic mites (Pyemotes, etc.), which are widely distributed in nature. They have strong predation or parasitism ability, with the same habitat as pests mites. These natural enemy mites are fast in development and easy for industrialization, which is one of the most important natural enemy groups in the control of a variety of pests mites. China is rich in pyemotes mite resources, which can be used for the control of stem borers and social pests.
China has a vast territory and diverse habitats, having potential for excavating excellent predatory mite species. There are predatory mites resource available in China, but few species can not adapt to complex and changing application environments, which seriously restricted the application of existing natural enemy mites and biological control technology.
Based on research of biology, ecology, behavior and release technology of predatory mites, large-scale production is booming Netherlands,United Kingdom, Spain, France, United States, Canada, Belgium and Israel.
Changli Fruit Tree Institute has been devoted to the research on the prevalence and control technology of diseases and pests of deciduous fruit trees for a long time, and the natural enemy products and related technologies have been applied in many places in China.
We are looking for partners from oversea countries to explore new natural enemy mite resources for the control of complex and changing ecological environment in different target pests.
