Apricot fruit is of short shelf life。It is usually harvested in green resulting in poor taste. If harvested at the right time, the fruit is very perishable at room temperature, thus it is difficult for transportation and and market circulation rate is low. This has become a key problem restricting the development of apricot industry. In addition, plum pox is a devastating disease of stone fruit trees in the world.
The domestic varieties have a good taste, but lack of high hardness and plum pox virus resistant varieties. Most foreign varieties are sour and can’t meet domestic consumption preference. It is very necessary to introduce high hardness and disease resistant varieties from abroad and cross with domestic varieties, and select new varieties with high quality, high hardness and disease resistance.
Shijiazhuang Fruit Tree Institute of Hebei Academy of agriculture and Forestry Sciences has long been engaged in the evaluation, innovation and utilization of apricot and plum germplasm, the breeding of new apricot and plum varieties with early maturity and high quality, and the research of molecular assisted breeding. It has obtained a number of achievements and developed 12 new apricot varieties. We are looking for partners from overseas countries to cooperate in the study, with aim to exchange plum and apricot germplasm, to carry out cross breeding and select new varieties with high quality, high hardness and disease resistance.
