Academic exchange seminar on efficient utilization of saline alkali land and salt tolerant plant resources

From September 20 to 22, the academic exchange seminar on the efficient utilization of saline alkali land and salt tolerant plant resources, the first topic of 2022 international academic exchange meeting organized by HAAFS, was held in Caofeidian District, Tangshan City. Istitute of Coastal Agriculture is the sponsor.


The seminar was held online. 3 foreign experts have gave excellent reports. Academician Bilquees Gul from Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilization, University of Karachi, Pakistan, explained the plantation and utilization of halophytes with saline water irrigation in the Pakistan. Professor Sergey Shabala from Institute of Agricultural Research, University of Tasmania, Australia showed his report on environmentally sustainable solution to global food security, crop halophytism. Researcher Ye Guoyou from Institute of International Rice Research, the Philippines, presented the status of rice salt tolerant breeding. Experts and scientific staffs at the seminar had extensive exchanges around the theme of "efficient utilization of saline alkali land and salt tolerant plant resources".


Director Zhang Meishen from International Cooperation Division of HAAFS fully affirmed the success of the first topic session, pointing out that the organization of international academic seminars under the COVID-19 epidemic by online has created a historical precedent for HAAFS and opened the first shot of international academic exchanges in 2022. It is necessary to take this seminar as a start, strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, establish a regular docking mechanism, and gather academic resources and talents. It is necessary to fully absorb and learn from the advanced methods and technologies of foreign experts, sort out the gaps and deficiencies, seek cooperation points, and effectively improve the research level of efficient utilization of saline alkali land and salt tolerant plant resources in HAAFS.
