The Institute of Dryland Farming of HAAFS held a field observation meeting on the mechanical harvest of the new corn variety Heng 9 in Jing County. Affected by the epidemic influence, the meeting was held online and on site.
The field performance of Heng 9 and the whole process of grain yield measurement by machine were concentrated showed. The online and on site participants exchanged ideas with the breeding team. Researcher WANG Keru from the Crop Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and CHEN Shuping from Institute of Dryland Farming, explained in detail the mechanical grain harvest technology for dense planting of Huanghuai Haixia maize. The acceptance and yield measurement expert group conducted the actual harvest and yield measurement for Heng 9. The average water content, loss rate and damage rate were 26.6%, 1.85% and 2.75%, respectively. The yield per mu was 738.1kg, an increase of 7.1% compared with Zheng Dan 958.
Heng 9 is a new maize variety with early maturity, high density tolerance and good grain harvest independently cultivated by the Institute of Dryland Farming. It was approved by the nation in 2019, and the production and management right was transferred to Hebei Xianyou Seed Industry Co., Ltd. in the same year. In recent years, Heng 9 core demonstration areas have been established in Hengshui, Xingtai, Handan and other places, totaling more than 2000 mu, with a cumulative promotion area of more than 1.2 million mu. This variety has filled the gap of machine harvested corn varieties in the summer planting area in the north of the Huang-Huai-Hai River in Hebei Province, and solved the industrial and technical problem of high grain damage rate of machine harvested varieties. Through the observation, representatives of large growers and seed distribution enterprises communicated with the breeding team about the planting technology and characteristics of this variety, indicating that Heng 9 meets the current demand for corn planting and hopes to further promote planting.
