To improve the research level of sorghum genetics and breeding, and promote academic exchanges and cooperation, the "International Seminar on Sorghum Germplasm Resources Innovation and Utilization" held by Institute of Millet was held on October 25. The themes of the conference were "sorghum quality components and molecular marker assisted breeding" and "sorghum aphid resistance molecular mechanism research and germplasm innovation". Six domestic and foreign experts were invited to give academic reports. According to the epidemic situation requirements, the meeting was held online and offline.

At the meeting, Professor Robert G. Gilbert, academician of the Australian Academy of Sciences, presented the report "Starch structure and diversity of sorghum". Other experts from Sorghum Germplasm Innovation CRIS Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Queensland and Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, respectively presented the reports on sorghum mutant breeding and selection, sorghum germplasm resources utilization, research on efficient expression system of sorghum genetic transformation. In-depth exchanges and discussions were conducted with the participants

We should fully absorb and learn from foreign advanced technical theories and make innovations, actively seek breakthroughs in international cooperation, and open up a way for innovation and utilization of sorghum germplasm resources. The convening of this international seminar provided a good opportunity for sorghum teams to track cutting-edge research at home and abroad, and laid a good foundation for improving innovation ability and seeking cooperation abroad.
