Recently, the project "Research, Development and Application of Moth Pest Food Attractant Based on Floral Odor" chaired by researcher ZHANG Tao of the Institute of Plant Protection held an on-site observation meeting. More than 30 people, including an expert group, leaders and researchers of relevant institutions, enterprise representatives and local growers, attended the event.

At the meeting, researcher ZHANG Tao introduced the research background of the project, the creation ideas of food attractants and the completion of project indicators. The expert group and the participants observed the attraction effect of food attractants on Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner), Macdunnoughia crassisigna (Warren) and other moth pests, and put forward suggestions on the follow-up research direction of the project. The expert group agreed that the food attractant developed by the project could trap and kill a large proportion of female moths, and the effect of trapping moths in the field was stable. The attractant was highly selective to moth pests, and had little impact on beneficial organisms such as bees and syrphid flies, which could be used for biological control of pests. The expert group suggested that the project team further improve the trapping activity of the product, expand the application scope of the product to corn and other staple crops, and hoped that the project team would speed up the industrialization of the product to provide product support and technical support for the reduction and efficiency increase of chemical pesticides.
