The Institute of Shijiazhuang Fruit Research held an investigation and observation meeting on January 13. General situation of strawberry research in the institute was introduced, and it was hoped that the demonstration and promotion of new strawberry varieties in the institute could be accelerated through this meeting.
Researcher Yang Lei, an expert of strawberry research, introduced more than 20 new strawberry varieties (lines) bred by the institute. After on-site evaluation, everyone unanimously gave high comments on "Ji 9", "727-1", "751-2", etc. The representative of Xinji's large grower shared his experience of planting "Ji 9", "Jichun" and other new varieties. He believed that "Jijiu" is not only a good variety with high yield, good quality, large fruit size, but also with good disease resistance.
"Ji 9" is suitable for cultivated in protected areas and harvest in late November. The shape of fruit is long and conical, with red surface and strong gloss; with large fruit, the average single fruit weight of the first order fruit is 64.25 g. “Ji 9” has good quality, sweet and sour fruit flavor with strong aroma. The soluble solids content is around 9.0%~13.6%, the titratable acid content is 0.56%~0.69%, vitamin C’s content is 0.54 mg · g-1. The fruit hardness is 0.59 kg · cm- 2, it has good tolerance during transportation and storage. The average yield is 450 g per plant and more than 3000 kg per mu. “Ji 9” also has good resistance to leaf spot, powdery mildew, gray mold, etc.
Strawberry industry is a promising industry for farmers to increase their income. The key to realize the sustainable development of strawberry industry is to bred new and good varieties. We should give full play to the advantages of new and excellent varieties, focus on building a scale demonstration base, promote new varieties to the market and make contributions to rural revitalization.
