From August 21 to August 26, 2023, experts MA Ping, LI Shezeng, ZHAO Weisong, and SU Zhenhe from the Institute of Plant Protection of HAAFS attended the 12th International Congress of Plant Pathology held in Lyon, France. The conference is hosted by the International Society of Plant Pathology and is held every 5 years. It is the highest level academic event in the field of international plant pathology.

The theme of the conference is "One health for all plants, crops and trees". More than 2400 representatives from over 100 countries including China, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and others attended the conference. The conference conducted extensive introductions and exchanges on plant health, food safety, disease diagnosis, biological control, pathogenic mechanisms of pathogens, and interactions between plant and microbial molecules in the form of special invitation reports, branch reports, and wall posters.

The delegation of HAAFS presented the research progress of the team on the synthesis of fungicin gene clusters and their atypical mechanisms in the plant disease organism Bacillus subtilis in the form of wall posters. Using genome mining technology and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, it was clarified that the NCD-2 strain of Bacillus subtilis can synthesize six antibacterial substances. At the same time, a unique way of synthesizing the fungicin gene cluster of this strain was discovered for the first time and its synthesis mechanism was revealed, This provides an important theoretical basis for the efficient production of antibacterial substances from Bacillus subtilis.

Through this conference, the delegation gained a clearer understanding of the cutting-edge trends and development directions of plant pathology, and also provided new ideas and insights for future research on biological control of plant diseases.
