On September 18, HAAFS participated in the first meeting of the China-Malaysia Agricultural Science and Technology Working Group, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, and jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institution. Experts from the International Cooperation Division and research institutes of HAAFS attended the meeting.

The meeting was divided into four parts with topics of "Food Crop Breeding and Production", "Agricultural Environment and Plant Protection", "Digital and Smart Agriculture", and "Food Processing and Reducing Loss and Waste". At the meeting, Dr. HU Yaya, the sweet potato expert from the Institute of Cereals and Oil Crops, and Dr. SONG Kai, the bio-control expert from the Institute of Dryland Farming, gave exciting reports on the topics of grain crop breeding and production, as well as agricultural environment and plant protection. They introduced the research progress and achievements of HAAFS’s sweet potato and bio-control team, as well as the direction of cooperation between China and Malaysia. They also discussed and exchanged ideas with Malaysian experts.

Since 2017, HAAFS has conducted multiple academic exchange activities with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institution in the fields of sweet potato breeding and bio-control technology. This meeting has built a bridge for communication between agricultural research institutions in China and Malaysia, further enhancing mutual understanding and laying a solid foundation for promoting the implementation of China-Malaysia cooperation projects.
