At the invitation of Honorary Professor Banno Kiyoshi from Shinshu University of Japan, HAAFS sent a fruit research delegation of five members to visit Japan and conducted academic exchanges on fruit resources, cultivation, management techniques, processing techniques, and other aspects of apples and pears.
The delegation investigated the quality performance and market circulation of red flesh apples in Japan, the development prospects of red flesh apples in China, and the commonly used dwarfing rootstocks and effects of Japanese pears. Under the leadership of Professor Banno and his team, they inspected the Shinshu Apple Research Institute, Nanxin agricultural experimental field, fruit selection field, as well as apple dense planting orchards and Matsukawa Town pear orchards in the Shinshu area.
In addition, the delegation tasted the fruit quality of 7 superior red flesh apple varieties, including IHR17, observed the growth characteristics and fruit quality of apple and pear varieties planted in research gardens, and exchanged the cultivation and management experience. Experts had communication on issues such as tree shape, yield, old orchard cultivation mode, and renewal process in apple dense planting orchards and Matsukawa Town pear orchards. The delegation went to the direct sales station of agricultural products to get knowledge of the local circulation prices and profits of agricultural products.
