From June 13 to 15, 2024, Dr. Takuya MORIMOTO, a PhD of Pomology, from Kyoto Prefectural University, Japan, was invited to visit the Institute of Shijiazhuang Fruit Research of HAAFS.
During the visit, Dr. MORIMOTO gave a report on the progress of hybridization research between apple and pear genera, visited experimental demonstration orchards, fruit tree root observation platforms, and comprehensive laboratories in pear research center. Research situation in fields of pear, apple, peach, and apricot was introduced by researchers of the institute and in-depth exchanges and discussions on technologies such as distant hybridization of fruit trees, breaking reproductive isolation between species, and embryo rescue were carried out by Dr. MORIMOTO and researchers.

Kyoto Prefectural University is the second prefectural university in Japan after Tokyo Prefectural University. The Orchard Horticulture Lab of Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, where Dr. MORIMOTO works, uses its rich genetic resources of pears, apples, grapes, persimmons, stone fruits, etc., including through cross-breeding between species of different genera to achieve greater genetic diversity. Combining the excellent traits of different species, they create new crops with new characteristics and have achieved substantial research results.
